Tapestries of Life Ministries (Guadalupe, Mexico)

I have gone to serve the children of God in the deserts of Mexico 3 times.  The purpose of going is to provide the children of Mexico a safe place to sleep, eat, and learn; as well as to serve the Lord.  This orphanage is located just outside of Guadalupe, Mexico and is literally in the middle of the desert.  Standing at the orphanage you can look in all directions across the desert and see very little civilization.  The plans for the orphanage call for it to be shaped like a traditional Christian cross, with the different arms of the cross being for different aged children.  The center of the cross will have a large vaulted ceiling made of of stain glass.  When complete the orphanage will house over 400 children, and according to the Mexican government, the day that it is open to receive children it will be filled to capacity.  These children will have their own beds, they will have rooms that are larger than their entire families home currently is, and they will have access to an education.  Along with going to Mexico to build this orphanage we also got the opportunity to give food to the less fortunate in Anapra, Mexico.  The Mexican government had announced plans to open a border crossing many years ago in Anapra.  This brought with it hope for thousands of Mexican families, if they could get to this proposed site then the chance to enter America was more likely.  Many of these families were very poor people to begin with, and they spent all of their families money to relocate to Anapra.  Unfortunately for these families, the border crossing was never built, leaving these citizens stuck in the Anapra area, with no homes, no jobs, no potential to support themselves, and no way to get out.  They have no way to support themselves, let alone their children or their families.  Children are going without toys, without clothes, and without food.  Tapestries of Life is committed to serving these people, and our group had the oppurtunity to travel to Anapra, and feed these people.  We were also blessed to be able to give the children toys, which they is very likely their first toy ever; and to see the look on these childrens' faces when you hand them a toy is something that I will never forget.  Unfortunately now that my college career has kicked into full swing I have not been able to go back as often as I would like, but once school has concluded I look forward to working to help the orphans of Mexico again.

I made the video above after a trip to Tapestries in 2008.

This is a picture of the "food brigade".  We are passing bags that have 3 lbs of beans and 3 lbs of rice in them.  The bags were placed under the seats and "smuggled" into Mexico to give to the VERY poor in the Anapora area.  I am located in the white t-shirt.
