Earthquake Engineering Research Institute of Penn State

Picture

I am the co-founder of the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute of Penn State (EERI-PSU).  This organization was developed to be a graduate and undergraduate club that aimed to bring together the Penn State students interested in Earthquake Engineering throughout various disciplines and connect them with the professional world.  As well as increase interest in Earthquake Engineering through community outreach projects at the the elementary through high school levels.  The idea for this club was hatched during the Spring semester of 2010 and over the summer we began developing our objectives and a game plan to bring this club into Penn State.  Due to the vast impact that Earthquakes have a community we decided to diversify our student members as much as we could. Although as we expected we have discovered that the majority of our student members are engineering students, from either Architectural Engineering or Civil Engineering, as well as a great arrangement or both graduate and undergraduate students.  Our research has shown us that we are the Nations largest student chapter of EERI.  We found this to be a great reward for all of our hard work to get the club started.

Structural Engineers Association of Penn State (SEA-PSU)

Picture
I became an officer of the Structural Engineers Association of Penn State (SEA-PSU) at the first meeting that I had ever attended.  At this meeting we were told that the club was about to die out due to the students in charge of the organization were set to graduate.  At that meeting I became the Secretary and I served in that position until my senior year; at which point I took the Presidents position.  We essentially started this club with our own ideas, although we did not have to jump through some of the hoops that Penn State requires for clubs.  We have since grown the club to be rather large, this was done by soliciting to both the civil engineering and the architectural engineering departments and trying to unite the students with similar interests.

National Association of Home Builders - PSU

Picture
The Penn State National Association of Home Builders is a club that I have been a member of since 2009.  At the end of that year I was awarded the 2009 Pennsylvania Builders Association Scholarship.  This scholarship was awarded to me for my interest in the structural engineering in high end homes.  This club offers many opportunities to learn about residential construction and design.

Student Society of Architectural Engineers (SSAE)

Picture
I have been involved with the Student Society of Architectural Engineers since I first came to Penn State University Park.  I have found this organization to be very beneficial for networking and communicating with my fellow Architectural Engineering students and faculty.  I have also been involved with the Mentoring Program since its inception and find that having someone to personally mentor is a very rewarding experience.  I also enjoy the professional connections that the mentoring program has to offer.

Penn State Racquetball Club

Picture
Penn State Racquetball Club is the Universities highest level of racquetball competition available.  This club is a member of the Eastern Collegiate Racquetball Conference (ECRC) and travels to several tournaments throughout the year.  As of 9/2/2010 I am ranked 13th on the club team and therefore I am eligible to travel with the team.  I hope to break into the top 10 by the end of the year and hopefully into the top 8.  If I can accomplish this I will be able to travel with the team to participate in the Nationals which are being held in Tempe, Arizona this year.  Please check back for updates on how I am progressing or feel free to check the "Ladder" on the Student Club Website.
